Interlibrary Loans

BEFORE ORDERING ITEMS FROM OTHER LIBRARIES, PLEASE CHECK THE LOCAL CATALOG FIRST.  IF ANY LIBRARIES IN OUR SYSTEM CARRY YOUR REQUESTED ITEM, PLEASE PLACE YOUR OWN HOLD.

INTERLIBRARY LOANS (LOANS FROM OTHER LIBRARIES)

The Post Falls Library will make every attempt to obtain items not available in its own collection that are sought by library patrons.  The Post Falls Library may choose to purchase requested items rather than borrowing them from another library.  It is noted that the interlibrary loan procedure is one of the most expensive library routines, and it is a library privilege done at the discretion of the library.  If the Post Falls Library chooses to attempt to borrow the items from another library, the Interlibrary Loan Procedures will go into effect.

Interlibrary Loan Procedures

1.  Patrons will fill out the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) form for each item they wish to have borrowed from another library.

2.  The Post Falls Library staff will determine the logistics of the ILL process, including which libraries will be contacted in which order.

3.  If a lending library charges a fee for a ILL transaction, the patron making the ILL request must agree to pay this fee.  The fee will be collected at the time the item is picked up by the patron.  Such fees are the patron's responsibility even if the patron does not pick up the item in the loaning period.  (Library patrons will not be charged normal postal charge.)

4.  ILL requests are limited to five per patron per month.  The library director may make special exceptions to increase or decrease this limit on a per patron basis.

5.  ILL items outside of the library's cooperating network are not renewable.  ILL items from within the network are governed by the rules of the lending library.

6.  ILL items may be reordered for the patron after a three month period from the date the item is received by the library for the patron.

7.  Fines for overdue ILL items are $.50 per day.

8.  Replacement costs for ILL items that are lost are those assessed by the loaning library plus a process charge of $3.00.

9.  If a patron does not pick up an ILL item obtained upon their request, a notice will be placed on the patron's electronic record to notify this patron of the failure to pick up the requested item with a "Not Picked Up" (NPU) notice.  After the patron has been notified, the NPU note will remain on the record.  If he patron orders another ILL item and incurs another NPU notice, they will be warned that a third occurence will result in having their ILL privileges suspended for one year.  If there is a third occurence, the ILL privileges will be suspended.  As noted in #3, the patron is responsible for assessed fees even in the NPU situation.
